Rio Rita's origins are unclear. One thing everyone agrees on is that she became a member of FEMFORCE (Federal Emergency Missions Force), a team of female superheroines assembled to assist the allied forces in WWII. Yet whether she was a superheroine herself is in question; most sources seem to imply she is a human with no special powers. She may have debuted as Senorita Rio in Fight Comics #19 in 1942 , rechristened Rio Rita later, and finally succeeded by her grandaughter. Or she may be the grandaughter of Senorita Rio. Regardless, Rio Rita is heralded as one of the first Latina heros in the history of comics.
